Post Office Jump Jam!

Posted: Apr 23, 2009

The Post Sea Otter Post Office Jump Jam landed on 4/20 this year and it lived up to expectations!

Check inside for pictures and a video!

It was the monday morning after Sea Otter week when I rolled out of bed debating if I should go to the Post Office jam or not. I had a lot of Image processing to do and lots of emails to send. I had been beat by the sun at otter and knew it would only be hotter at the jam. My debate was quickly ended when I remembered just who would be at the jam and just how much Jamie and the Aptos locals had worked on the jumps.

As I drove by the jumps to park I was not surprised to see no one riding as my car thermometer reading over 100 degrees at noon. I was not stoked to leave the comfort of my AC. I packed up my gear and took the short walk back to the jumps. Once I was in eye shot of the jumps my attitude completely changed. The boys had more then fixed up all the lines they had made a entirely new line. Which consisted of five jumps and three berms. every one had a shovel in their hands to help finnish up the lines.

Shortly after I got to the jam some of the locals started to ride. Like always they were showing how it is done, Smooth and very stylish.

Once the locals started to ride and the lines were dialed in people started to put there shovels down and pick their bikes up. Ryan Howard was on a new Bike but looked right at home on it.

The session was slow due to the heat but the riding that did happen was amazing.

After shooting a few pictures I ran into Casey Groves. We were both sick of the heat and he wanted to ride local step up, So we headed out. Once we found the step up casey took a liking to it and started spinning and flipping it.

After a short session at the step up we went pack to the jam. By the time we got back things were starting to get going. Ryan Howard, Cam McCaul and Brandon semenuk were having there own little 360 contest. R Dog was doing crazy flat spins, Cam was getting them way to dumped but Brandon took them with quite possibly the craziest trick I have ever seen in my life. Some were calling it 360 un-turn-downs others were calling them 360 inward tables. No matter the name every one called it amazing.

He did not stop at doing it once, no, he kept doing them and doing them pulling it clean every time.

After a while Cam got bored and decided there was going to be a step up contest. With two shovels and a role of toilet paper it was on! Not many riders seemed to be into it but Cob, brandon and carter Wanted to play. Cob was the first to go and the first to clear the TP. Brandon was next and he got over it with style and ease.

There were other stand outs such as Andrew Tayler's tuck no back flips.

Cam and AT both threw down super flips as well.

Rumor has it that the post office jumps are going to be no longer, if this is true, what better way to go out then this amazing jam. Thanks to Jamie for putting on the jam and to all the people that picked up a shovel and helped make the jumps so amazing.

I will leave you with a picture of the most stylish rider out there Jim Tharp
